Opening Night for the Casper Warbirds

Inaugural Casper Warbirds Hockey Game on Saturday, September 21st

Casper, Wyo. (September 17, 2024) – The Warbirds’ season home opener is on Saturday, September 21st at 7:00 p.m. versus the Rock Spring Grizzlies at the Casper Ice Arena.

The inaugural game will feature player introductions and a ceremonial puck drop by the City of Casper’s mayor, Steve Cathey. “We’re excited for our team and fans to see our players compete. This is our first game and first look at the Casper Warbirds,” said Head Coach Jacob Smulevitch.

The Warbirds’ coaching staff has worked diligently since July to finalize roster spots. Over 152 players from across the country competed in Fort Wayne, Indiana to make the 42-player training camp roster. Eventually, Smulevitch and the coaching staff narrowed the final roster to 26 players.

Ryan Coots was named the Warbirds’ team captain. A skilled defenseman from North Carolina grew up playing competitive hockey at an early age. “I started playing hockey when I was 5 years old. I grew up on a military base in North Carolina and moved to Denver, Colorado where I started playing AAA hockey for the Colorado Thunderbirds.”  On Saturday, Coots will lead the team on the ice versus the in-state rivals the Rock Springs Grizzlies. “I am pumped to get the season started on a good note, the team has been putting in a lot of effort these last couple weeks and we’d love to have a win on our home opener,” Coots said.

Enjoy cold beer, popcorn, pretzels, and more at the Casper Ice Arena concession stand while watching the Warbirds. Tickets for the home opener are $20 for adults and $12 for youth (12 and under). Tickets are on sale on The Warbirds’ website and at the door. Merchandise and season tickets will be available for purchase.
