Natrona County Library Launches “Know Your Government” Civic Education Series

Civic Education Series
CASPER, WY – The Natrona County Library is inviting the community to get informed, get involved, and get connected with local and state government through a new civic education series, Know Your Government: From City Hall to the State Capitol. Offered in partnership with Representative Elissa Campbell, the four-part series kicks off Thursday, August 14 at 6 PM in the Library’s Crawford Room.
Public libraries have long served as community hubs for access to trusted information—and today, they’re increasingly important as civic spaces where people can learn how government works and engage directly with those who represent them. Through this series, the Library aims to help residents better understand the roles of city, county, and state government and how everyday citizens can participate in decision-making that affects their lives.
“Libraries are uniquely positioned to foster civic literacy,” said Lisa Scroggins, Library Executive Director. “By connecting the public with elected officials and offering free, nonpartisan educational programming, we empower our community to ask questions, make informed choices, and take part in the democratic process.”
In a time when many feel disconnected from the institutions that shape their daily lives, understanding the structure and function of local and state government is more important than ever. Civic engagement doesn’t have to mean running for office—it can start with showing up, asking questions, and learning how policies are made. An informed, involved community leads to more responsive leadership, better decision-making, and a stronger democracy for everyone.
Each session will feature local and state leaders, cover essential topics like taxation, budgeting, and the legislative process, and include time for public Q&A. Sessions will also be recorded and made available on the Library’s YouTube channel.
