The Casper Mountain Lions Club welcomes fellow chamber members to hear the enthralling story of survival and perseverance from 9/11 survivor Michael Hingson when he visits Casper this fall.
Hingson will share his story with the public on Sunday, Oct. 25 at 1:30 p.m. in the Wheeler Concert Hall in the Casper College Music Building. The presentation, sponsored by the Wyoming Council of the Blind, is free and open to everyone. Co-sponsors include the Casper Mountain Lions Club, Montgomery Trust Fund for the Blind and Karst Industries.
It’s been 25 years since Hingson survived the Sept. 11 suicide attacks against the Uniited States by the Islamic terrorist organization al-Qaeda. In his speech titled, “Turning the Tails on Terror in our Uncertain and Scary World: Labrador Lessons from September 11, 2001,” the New York Times best-selling author shares how we all can learn to live better lives when we focus and don’t panic, even in the most horrific circumstances imaginable.
On September 11, 2001, Hingson, a blind man, led colleagues down 78 floors of the burning World Trade Center — calmly, with his guide dog Roselle. Now, as a survivor of the 9/11 tragedy as well as a person who happens to be blind, Hingson captivates and enthralls audiences with his unique perspective on life and relationships. He helps people explore how they may sabotage their own efforts and how fear, courage, denial, trust, beliefs and philosophies have a tremendous impact on personal lives, organizations and the world.
Not only will Hingson discuss his escape from the World Trade Center on 9/11, but he will describe his life journey, partnering with eight guide dogs, and how he came to be in the Twin Towers on that fateful day.
The audience will learn:
1. Disability does not mean a lack of ability.
2. How to adapt flexibility when making life plans.
3. Why it is important to listen more carefully to your inner voices.
4. About trust and teamwork from canines.
5. Why Alexander Graham Bell was right when he said, “When a door closes, God opens a window.”
Hingson will be available to sign copies of his best seller “Thunder Dog” after the presentation.
The Casper Mountain Lions Club is affiliated with Lions Clubs International — the world’s largest service club organization. With a focus on helping people with sight impairments, Casper Mountain Lions Club members partner with local businesses and others in the community to collect used eyeglasses for the Lions Recycle for Sight Program, provide eyewear grants to qualified applicants, maintain the Casper Mountain Braille Trail and conduct other humanitarian projects.
Casper Mountain Lions Club projects are funded by an annual community pancake festival in Mills the first Saturday in May.
