Boys & Girls Clubs Expands Summer Sports Opportunities Through New Partnerships and Programs

Casper - As the school year comes to a close and families begin preparing for summer activities, the Boys & Girls Clubs is excited to announce an expanded lineup of summer sports opportunities designed to keep youth active, engaged, and connected throughout the summer months.

This summer’s programming will feature exciting new partnerships, expanded athletic opportunities, and the introduction of new sports to the Casper community.

A major highlight of the summer lineup is the continued partnership with WYO Sports Ranch to provide Summer Basketball opportunities for both adult and youth athletes. The partnership will create a cost-effective and exciting environment for players of all skill levels to compete, develop fundamentals, and stay active during the offseason while utilizing one of the region’s premier athletic facilities.

This summer will also introduce the exciting FIBA 3v3 basketball format for 2nd–8th grade athletes, one of the fastest-growing styles of basketball in the world and now an Olympic sport. The 3v3 format is designed to maximize player development by increasing touches, decision-making opportunities, spacing awareness, conditioning, and overall basketball IQ. With fewer players on the court, athletes are more involved in every possession, allowing them to develop ball handling, shooting, passing, defensive skills, and game awareness at a much faster pace than traditional full-court formats. Basketball development leaders across the country continue to emphasize the importance of small-sided games like 3v3 because they encourage creativity, confidence, pace, and skill development while ensuring every athlete remains actively engaged throughout the game experience.

In addition to basketball, the Boys & Girls Clubs is proud to partner with USA Lacrosse to introduce lacrosse to the community through a FLEX6 non-contact format. FLEX6 is a fast-paced, beginner-friendly version of the sport that focuses on skill development, teamwork, movement, and fun in a safe, non-contact setting. The new program is designed to expose athletes and families to one of the fastest-growing sports in the country while creating an accessible entry point for first-time participants.

The organization will also continue growing Casper Flag Football opportunities this summer, providing athletes with a fun, competitive, and developmental environment to build football fundamentals, speed, teamwork, and confidence without the contact of traditional tackle football. While many parents believe tackle football is the primary path to learning the game, many of the nation’s top football recruiting states now utilize flag football and 7-on-7 competition as major tools for player development. Through flag football, athletes gain more repetitions, improve route running, coverage recognition, pursuit angles, reads, timing, and decision-making in space while developing a higher football IQ in a lower-risk environment. Football development leaders continue to emphasize that players often become more complete athletes through flag football because they must rely on technique, awareness, speed, and execution rather than physical contact alone.

“Our goal is to make sure families know what opportunities are available early so they can plan their summers while also making sure kids stay active, connected, and involved,” said DC Martinez, Athletic Director. “Summer sports provide more than just competition, they create friendships, build confidence, teach leadership, and keep youth engaged in positive activities throughout the summer.”

The expanded summer offerings reflect the Boys & Girls Clubs’ continued commitment to providing affordable, inclusive, and developmental athletic opportunities for youth of all ages and experience levels.

Program registration information, schedules, and additional details are available through our BGCCW.org website, and registration is now officially open for all summer athletics programs. Families are encouraged to register early to secure their spot for the summer season.
