GIVE KIDS A SMILE DAY PROVIDES FREE DENTAL CARE FOR LOCAL CHILDREN
WHO: • 88 of an estimated 1,506 underserved children from Natrona County Schools will receive care
• Approximately 49 dentists, hygienists, assistants and volunteers
• 6 Natrona County Schools Elementary Nurses and Representatives
WHAT/WHY: Nearly one in four children aged two to 11 years old have untreated cavities in their baby teeth, according to the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention. Many children enrolled in Medicaid receive no dental services throughout the year.
Give Kids A Smile is held annually to:
• Provide free, easily accessible dental services to local, qualifying children.
• Raise awareness of the epidemic of untreated dental disease occurring locally and nationally and create local public and private partnerships to increase access to oral health care to solve this crisis.
This is the second year the Community Health Centers of Central Wyoming (CHCCW) has been hosted this event to provide free dental care to local children who desperately need it. This years Under the Sea themed event will offer games and activities to create a fun environment for a day at the dentist.
The American Dental Association launched the national Give Kids A Smile program 2003 as a way for dentists to join with the community to provide dental services to underserved children. Each year, 400,000 children benefit from more than 1,500 events nationwide.
