The guys met at Montana State University in Bozeman. John grew up here singing for Casper Children’s Chorale, East Junior High choirs and Kelly Walsh High School choirs.
Josh also sang in his high school choir, but being from Hutchinson, Minnesota he jokes that, “I didn’t sing that much, actually. I played hockey and threw things at the tv when the Vikings lost, which was often.”
The Clintons played their first show in the fall of 1999 and by September of 2000 they released their debut CD titled Kinky. “For several years all we did was make records and tour in an RV. They’ve made eight total records with their full band and have played over 1,000 shows together.
John & Josh started playing part time as a duo in 2002 under the name, “The Wench,” but didn’t release a record as a duo until 2011 with “Live from Yellowstone Valley Brewing Company.” “We still play several times a year as a full band, but those other two fine gentlemen simply can’t keep pace with us.
When babies entered the picture in 2011, things naturally slowed down. They wouldn’t put out another record until 2015’s release, WORKIN’ ON OK. “It’s incredible how you have kids, you don’t sleep, you blink your eyes and years have flown by. Now as our kids are getting older and sleeping better, it’s getting easier to get back into writing and recording again.”
This year they have released another full album titled “Tornado Alley”, as well as a three song EP titled “Summer Songs” (available in download only from their website). They’re currently gearing up to release a four song EP titled “The Cat/Griz EP.” They’ll be back in the studio in January working on another full length El Wencho record that they plan to release on Cinco De Mayo in 2018. Then, they plan to write tunes for the next Clintons album.
Their music is available through CD Baby, iTunes, Amazon, Spotify, as well as all of the usual online suspects. You can keep in at www.facebook.com/elwencho as well as www.elwencho.com.
