SUMMARY:Artist Reception at The NIC - Art Walk
DESCRIPTION:Start at The NIC during Art Walk on Thursday\, October 4th from 5:30pm to 7:30pm to enjoy beautiful art by Jim Kopp: Primordial Charms" showing in the Ptasynski Gallery\, Bailey Russel: "Room Sized Camera Obscuras and the Direct Image" in the\n\nMcMurry Gallery\, and Bruce Park: "Resonance" in the Bordewick and Durham Galleries. This event is FREE to the public.\n\n\n\nJIM KOPP\n\n"Primordial Charms"\n\nSeptember 28-January 13\n\nPtasynski Gallery\n\n"The artwork in the exhibit are sculptures\, assemblages and paintings that were conjured from an intuitive place in my mind as if they were charms--objects that represent the unknown powers that cross the line from another world to ours. Bits and pieces of magic\, or unknown worlds from the past\, present\, and future are revealed through the artwork much like charms\,\n\nwhich have a fantastical or attractive appeal. While many of the sculptures and assemblages represent charms\, the paintings are scenes depicting places and interactions far away from our daily lives."\n\n\n\nBAILEY RUSSEL\n\n"Room Sized Camera Obscuras and the Direct Image"\n\nSeptember 21-December 30\n\nMcMurry Gallery\n\n"This exhibition is an exploration of a particular and strange photographic technique\, the room sized camera obscura. Essentially a dark room with a lens installed in one wall\, I've used this process for years to create images first in New York and Seattle and more recently around Wyoming\, directly exposing large sheets of color or bw negative and positive paper to the projected scene. These images are an exploration of landscape devoid of people and motion and distilled to their fundamental parts. I'm interested in the monumental and the mundane\, looking at the closed\, chaotic city-scapes of New York City and the open\, empty areas on the edge of town in my new home Laramie\, Wyoming. They are also an exploration of process\, a convoluted\, difficult and error prone one that leaves it's indelible mark on the image\, dictating what I photograph and how the end product looks."\n\n\n\nBRUCE PARK\n\n"Resonance"\n\nSeptember 28- January 13\n\nBordewick and Durham Galleries\n\n"It is my desire to create the beauty that I see and feel each day from this good earth. Working with intuitive color layering I am able to create a harmonic resonance of color and light."
