SUMMARY:Artcore: Marla & the Stingers at Our Savior Lutheran Church
DESCRIPTION:Marla and the Stingers\, the bassoon quartet from Casper\, provides audiences with an insight into the grace\, pathos\, and dexterity of an instrument traditionally thought of as "the clown of the orchestra." Through literature written originally for the ensemble and through arrangements written specifically for them\, Marla and the Stingers performs both old and new music.\n\nHeather Malody\, Heidi Perrett\, Mala Stagg\, and ensemble founder Richard Turner have performed extensively throughout the region as soloists and in many bands and orchestras in Wyoming. As an ensemble\, they have performed on the ARTCORE and Casper Chamber Music Society recital series as well as with the Casper Municipal Band.\n\nFrom the mellow sounds and complex rhythms of Renaissance dance music to the vigorous strains of a piccolo part to a Sousa march\, Marla and the Stingers plays it all.\n\nHeather Malody is a Casper native who teaches mathematics at Kelly Walsh High School. She has played bassoon for several groups around the state including the Wyoming Symphony Orchestra\, Powder River Symphony Orchestra\, Fremont Symphony Orchestra\, and Casper Municipal Band.\n\nHeidi Perrett is in her 10th year of teaching elementary music in Casper. She has been playing bassoon since middle school\, and has a BA in performance. Heidi enjoys playing with multiple groups\, spending time with her family\, and keeping up with photography.\n\nMala Stagg works at Casper College and performs with the Casper Municipal Band\, as well as freelancing in Central Wyoming.\n\nRichard Turner serves as Principal Bassoon with the Wyoming Symphony\, Coprincipal Bassoon with the Black Hills Symphony Orchestra\, and has performed with the Billings Symphony and the Powder River Symphony. and is adjunct instructor of bassoon and recorder at Casper College.\n\nCo-sponsored by the Casper Journal.
